There’s no question that summer has hit full force in the states, and at Talus we can’t think about anything but climbing freezing faces on the coldest, harshest, steepest mountains in the world. Needless to say we’ve been spending our days daydreaming about next winter and fantasizing about being in New Zealand to enjoy their ski season that seems to be shaping up quite nicely. So we could live vicariously through the kiwis who are so fortunate to have snow right now, we decided to hook our readers up with a little 411 about the best resorts south of the border, in case any of you are lucky enough to go play in the white stuff any time soon. This website goes into the ins and outs of New Zealand resorts so when you go south to play, you play right.

We can all agree that Antarctica qualifies as plenty cold.
So, we’re pretty thrilled that Sebastian Copeland, extreme expedition entrepreneur, has packed a ColdAvenger Pro with him for his upcoming trek across that frozen pole. He is getting ready to head off into the snow for a 3000 mile journey over uncharted territory.

Sebastian is a photographer, extreme athlete, and an environmental advocate. This trip to Antarctica is a project to film a documentary celebrating the centennial of the original Scott and Amundsen’s journey to the South Pole in 1911. Oh yeah, he is also a world-record setting kite-skier!
ColdAvenger will be making Sebastian’s trek just a wee bit easier than that 100 year old venture! Good travels to you, adventurer!

ColdAvenger athlete Felicity Aston is making the final preparations for her solo journey across Antartica. This is a return trip for Felicity, but this time she will be going alone. Felicity will be making a 1700km, 70-day ski journey to become the first woman in the world to cross Antarctica alone.
However, this journey is about more than records. The expedition, part of the Kaspersky One Transantarctic Expedition 2011, is about building a spirit of adventure, aspiration and innovation, as well as a chance to improve understanding about what motivates individuals to achieve.

Check out Felicity's Video
Felicity has raced in the Canadian Arctic, led a team of women across the inland ice of Greenland, led a record-making International team to the South Pole, searched for meteorite craters in Quebec, skied along a frozen river in Siberia, traversed the winter ice of Lake Baikal, completed the infamous Marathon Des Sables across the Moroccan Sahara and spent three years living and working in the Antarctic.
Color us impressed.
What will Felicity will be packing in her essential gear bag? A ColdAvenger Pro, natch!
Follow Felicity’s journey on Facebook and Twitter to share every step of the adventure.

We just returned from a great sales trip to North Dakota. It’s lovely this time of year. But…many times of year it can be down right brutal as far as weather is concerned. That’s why we will have a major presence in that state this season. The NoDaks need us!

We’ve got a lot of heads turning toward us from the oil fields in North Dakota. The times are booming there, but it ain’t easy living. Here’s a peek into the conditions for the workers who have flocked to the jobs extracting that black gold from the ground.
The Minot Daily News story about the Bakken oil Fields
And that is BEFORE the winter hits!
Naturally, we were concerned. We have a number of friends, family members and acquaintances who have ventured there for jobs. So, went to the Bakken oil fields to bring the ColdAvenger solution to the men and women busting their frozen butts (and faces.)
The Billings Gazette did a nice little story about it.

You know where it gets cold? Maine, that’s where. You know where else? Michegan, right? Minnesota? YEAH! Upstate New York? Uh huh.

So, we’re pretty excited that we have signed a deal with premier buying group Snowsports Merchandising Corporation, offering its retail members immediate sell-in and delivery in 2011/2012.
We needed a boost in retail outlets in the northeast, so I’m excited by this partnership with Snowsports Merchandising Corporation. It’s great to be offering a unique buying proposition and value-add to these retailers who already utilize and trust Snowsports buying group.
SMC has a broad reach, and really helps us hit those Northeast markets, so we’re looking forward to keeping faces warm in all them cold spots. Nordic skiing in Tilson Creek Park, International Falls, MN? No prob, ColdAvenger’s got you covered. Heck, how about some of those Vikings games, peeps?

This guy needs a ColdAvenger Expedition Balaclava, no?
Hunting the big bucks in Grand Forks? We can help.
Hooking for the walleye in the frozen lakes around Cheboygan? Put on the ColdAvenger!

(Letter found on John’s desk– unfortunately there’s no mailing address. Don’t tell him we published it.)
Lovely La Nina -
Hey, baby. It was really great to see you last winter. The NOAA said you might be thinking about coming back and getting crazy again. I just want to let you know that all of the fellas here at ColdAvenger really dig your chilly chill, fluffy lines and plunging temps. Last winter was unforgettable. And I hope you do the same thing again this year so we can post lots of pictures of you on the internet.

And listen–I know you’re into me, but I also heard that you might be paying a visit to the fellas in the Pacific Northwest and even the Northern Plains again. Is this true? Well, I guess I can’t stop you from getting around the country. But if you go, tell those guys how awesome ColdAvenger is–that we can protect their lungs and airway. They’ve been hurt before, you know–you’ve caused some of the boys severe chronic cold weather injuries like asthma and the Khumbu Cough. Apparently they don’t know that it’s safer and more fun with ColdAvenger.
Just get here soon. And stay cool, baby.
Stay Out Longer,
John B. Sullivan III aka ColdAvenger Pro

September is a critical turning point in my year— the end of a busy summer working on new product development and securing retail purchase orders occupy my brain space and my time! It is September, which means our big seasons of Fall and Winter are oh so near. So, I had to make a quick break for it, relax and catch up on some fishing, my suntan (no comments please) and take a mini-vacation to do some deep sea fishing in Hawaii. I was lucky enough to go with my pals at Waypoint Outdoor and Shane from my PR team. A total boys trip and I loved every second of it!
Here are a few pics of the trip! Back to business now, totally refreshed and ready for the cold weather to bring it on!

We’re honored to post this testimonial from Wendy L. O’Connor, the chief Academic Advis0r of Biological Studies at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
She explains how the ColdAvenger truly changed her life. Three years ago Wendy developed Reactive Airway Disease from complications of bronchitis. Reactive Airway Disease happens when the lungs overreact during different activities and environmental situations. It has asthma-like symptoms. In Wendy’s case, her lungs reacted adversely to cold weather and breathing in cold air. She developed RAD and endured steroid therapy the past three winters, with very little to no improvement. After being diagnosed with RAD, her pulmonologist explained how vital it would be to cover her mouth and nose whenever she ventured outside in cold temperatures to prevent a huge coughing fit. It was important for her to cover her mouth and protect her lungs even when she walked from the car to work or the short distances to the bus stop.
Obviously, the restrictive orders altered Wendy’s day to day life and the cold air became her worst enemy. She had to change her lifestyle and give up on being active in the outdoors when it was cold to avoid side effects. With her breathing heavily restricted and lifestyle severely cramped, Wendy set out to find a solution too keep from going through another winter in agony. She tells us:
I began searching the internet for a way to replicate an indoor environment while walking outdoors. The best answer I could come up with was to purchase a snowmobile helmet or motorcycle helmet and just wear that….I didn’t care how weird I would look. Walking around downtown with a motorcycle helmet on my head seemed a small price to pay compared to how bad my lungs get in the bitter cold Nebraska winters. During my internet search I happened upon the Talus Outdoor Tech. site and discovered the ColdAvenger. THIS was the answer I had been looking for-I hoped.
Wendy was skeptical at first because it almost seemed to good to be true. But she quickly found that the ColdAvenger didn’t restrict her breathing at all! And she was impressed with how the ventilation system could warm the air enough to stave off a coughing fit. Her first test was a relatively chilly morning in October.
It wasn’t too cold out, but cold enough that my lungs would be irritated. I could NOT BELIEVE what a difference it made! No coughing! No aching lungs with every breath I took! And warmed air to breathe in! I was floored.
The true test came when Wendy used the ColdAvenger on a frigid sub-zero December morning. The ColdAvenger saved her walk to work.
Not only were my lungs totally comfortable, and the air I was breathing warm, but I didn’t even feel cold! The difference being that my face covered in cold weather was remarkable. The ColdAvenger is nearly a miracle to me. ColdAvenger allows me to be outdoors during the winter as much as I want and/or need to be. I am certain that if it weren’t for this product I would require at least one round of steroids just to get through the winter.
And the coolest thing is that the ColdAvenger is designed specifically with people like Wendy in mind. Because Wendy’s own warm breath is mixed with the cold outdoor air inside the ventilator, she and all other ColdAvenger users are able to inhale humidified air that is 40-to-60 degrees warmer! If you have any questions about ColdAvenger technology, how the ColdAvenger works, how cold weather affects athletes or how ColdAvenger can rescue you from respiratory problems, visit the Health Science section of the Talus Outdoor Tech Website.
Thanks Wendy and enjoy the rest of winter!
Stay Out Longer!
