Ian Hall finished second overall in the 6633 Ultra in March 2013. We want to say congrats on the amazing accomplishment! The 6633 Ultra is a 352-mile race from Eagle Plains in the Yukon to the Arctic Ocean at Tuktoyaktuk which is through the Arctic Circle. This race is a non-stop, self-sufficient foot race. At the beginning of the 2013 race there were 20 starters and only four that finished. Hall’s race time was six days and 19 hours which earned him second place. Check out the pictures below of him at the Arctic Circle and during the race wearing his favorite cold weather face mask, the ColdAvenger!

Talus athlete heads to Everest for research project
Thursday, April 18th, 2013Reasearcher and ColdAvenger athlete, Hari Mix, is attempting to climb Lhotse without oxygen this spring with Chris Klinke and Dr. Eric Meyer. Hari is also a part of the The Extreme Environments-Everyday Decision (Triple ED) Mt. Everest research project that aims to study decision-making processes in the dangerous context of Mt. Everest. The team of six researches will interview guides, climbers and sherpas during their two-month expedition to the Mt. Everest base camp. During an acclimatization climb Hari also gathered information for Adventurers and Scientist for Conservation. Just below the summit of Lobuche East he rappelled off the lip of a crevasse to gather snow and ice samples for a colleague that is focused on the thinning of Himalayan glacier due to climate change and the role of dust and other particles in accelerating the melting. To hear more about his research projects and see his postcard like pictures go to his website and read his blog here.

KPAX Features ColdAvenger
Sunday, January 6th, 2013Check out the segment that KPAX TV aired on our involvement with The Coldest Journey. As you may have heard, Sir Ranulph Fiennes is leading a team of explorers to conquer the last great polar challenge: crossing Antarctica in winter. Their remarkable attempt aims to raise $10m for Seeing is Believing, and we’re thrilled that ColdAvenger is involved. Dennis Bragg of KPAX News says when referring to the expedition, “Missoula-based Talus Outdoor Technologies’ popular ColdAvenger masks will be a key piece of the gear. The company’s Phil Stempin said Fiennes’ team researched the top gear in the world and chose Talus after testing out its products.” Watch the rest of the story by clicking on the image below.

ColdAvenger Options for a New Year of Warmth
Thursday, December 27th, 2012Ever wondered what kind of ColdAvenger® you should get? It’s a big decision, and before you leap, you should take a look at your options.
Just like any good product, there are many different ColdAvengers to choose from.
Key features:
Patented ventilator
Prevents fogging
Manages moisture
Allows you to breathe naturally
Warms and humidifies each breath
So now the question is which one to choose? Here are your options:
ColdAvenger® Classic Fleece:
This option is made with classic fleece that breathes and insulates well but is not windproof or water resistant. It’s perfect most wintertime adventures.
ColdAvenger® Pro Softshell:
Made with soft-shell fleece–a tightly knit fleece with a laminate nylon shell–the ColdAvenger Pro is wind and water resistant.
ColdAvenger® Expedition Balaclava:
This is the warmest and most versatile cold weather mask available. It’s made with Polartec® Wind Pro®, an extremely breathable fleece that is four times more wind resistant than classic fleece. It comes in two pieces for easy removal of the ventilator while still protecting your head and neck from the cold.
ColdAvenger® FRC Expedition Balaclava:
This option is made with Polartec® Thermal FR® fabric which combines the performance benefits of heavy fleece with the protection of permanent flame resistance. This one also come in two-piece design which allows for easy removal of the ventilator.
So now you can better choose which one is best for you or for a loved one this new year–get them all here.
The end of the world calls for a balaclava…and a beer.
Friday, June 29th, 2012We all saw it coming and we have to say that we’re wildly relieved that finally someone else has too. If the world is indeed coming to an end via an Ice Age we’re sure as heck not going to take that sitting down. (Ok, well we might sit and huddle for warmth but figuratively speaking we’ve hit the ground running).
The ColdAvenger Expedition Balaclava is built specifically to humidify the air that you’re breathing in and keep the moisture from exhalation away from your face to prevent freezing.
This keeps your lungs and your esophagus happy while still making sure your beard (or your she-beard) doesn’t turn into a forest of hairsicles when you’re out tackling Mother Nature.
We originally built the ColdAvenger to keep your mug warm during outdoor expeditions but if it helps us become the last ones standing at the end of the world then we’ll take it.
In fact, word is getting out that the end of the world will be much more enjoyable if you have a ColdAvenger Expedition Balaclava. Check out this article about Apocolypse Gear from Active Junky here. End of the world gifts make an excellent 4th of July party favor. Just sayin’.
