Spring cleaning could yield some hidden treasures

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

The end of ski season marks the beginning of spring and summer activities for resorts around the country. That means resort employees are scurrying to set up alpine slides, ziplines, hiking and biking trails and picnic areas.  Essentially, they’re doing a huge spring cleaning.

Resorts around the country set aside a time at the end of every season to make sure they clean up all of the belongings lost under the lift (and elsewhere) during the ski season. Some of the gems they find? Ski poles, single skis and, when they’re lucky, a $20,000 Rolex watch.

Looks like the end of season isn’t all bad for ski junkies. Check out the full article in The Missoulian here.

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

More than 2,000 National Trails Days events will be taking place across all 50 states thanks to the American Hiking Society (AHS) and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) joining forces. Events will include but will not be limited to trail maintenance projects, hikes, bike and horseback rides and trail dedications.

Come celebrate!

To commemorate the 20-year mark for National Trails Day, the Boy Scouts of America will be offering a collectable patch for all Scouts who participate in the event.

The BSA will be offering a collectible patch for all scouts participating in the event to commemorate the 20-year mark for National Trails Day.

We love trails, and we’re thrilled to mark this day with our own trail adventures. See you out there!

Chris Klinke still hitting Everest head on

Friday, May 18th, 2012

Talus athlete Chris Klinke is still grinding the pavement (mountain side?) and hitting Everest hard.

Chris Klinke

About a month ago Klinke was spending his time at base camp acclimatizing and practicing strategies they would most definitely need on the mountain later on. Klinke suffered from a chest infection for nearly a week at the end of April, setting him back a few days.

The team recently recovered from the Khumbu cough, a sickness induced by cold winds that plagued their team for about four days.

Check out Chris Klinke’s blog here for his full account on his Everest expedition.
