Work that’s not for wussies.

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

You may think your job is challenging, but do you risk your life just clocking in? This post goes out to those folks who work the kind of jobs that most of us don’t have the chops to handle.

We just landed a big order from a major global energy company for a custom-to-order balaclava! We’re stoked to continue to build a technology that not only keeps people protected when they are hitting the extreme sports, but helps keep them safe on the jobsite.

Always working to lead the way in occupational safety and protection, ColdAvenger is excited to announce a new generation of Expedition Balaclava Flame Resistant masks for extreme conditions.  The ColdAvenger Expedition Balaclava FR provides protection from freezing temperatures and hazardous environments faced by rescue crews, construction workers, oil rig crews and other folks who often put themselves in harm’s way as a part of their everyday jobs. Our little way of saying “Thanks!”

Here’s a peek at how pretty they are:

Coldavenger Pro Expedition Balaclava FR

Not only is this a basic safety issue, proper equipment on the job can help employers reduce sick days and injuries. We don’t want to be too gloomy about it, but according to the US Department of Labor, an estimated 50,000 American workers die each year from illnesses caused by workplace exposures, and 6 million people suffer non-fatal workplace injuries. Injuries alone cost U. S. businesses over $122 billion annually. Unfortunately, Expedition Balaclavas alone aren’t going to solve all that problem, but we sure hope they’ll make an impact.

Check out this quick tip list for how to reduce workplace injuries at your jobsite.

The latest Expedition FR is built from the Polartec® Wind Pro®-FR fabric that we’ve upgraded with a proprietary FR poly-blend, made of high flame rated material and a comfortable poly blend. The ventilator mask is fully detachable for convenience.

The Polartec® Wind Pro®-FR is for the coldest climates when you must have the best insulation and the added protection of a flame resistant fabric and the performance of the ColdAvenger® ventilator. These awesome features:

  • Will not melt or drip
  • Two times more wind-resistant than traditional fleece
  • Water-repellent surface to shed rain and snow
  • Durable and machine washable

Morning Bike Commute

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Spring is fast approaching, and more people are getting ready to ride their bikes to work again.  (Of course, there is a large contingency of winter bike commuters–and we commend them!)  While the snow is melting, some mornings it can still be quite chilly despite what the day’s forecast may predict.  Don’t take the easy way out and simply put on a scarf–that just traps the condensation from your breath and creates an unpleasant damp situation around your face.  Solution: a ColdAvenger Pro face mask of course!

A ColdAvenger facemask allows you to breathe evenly without creating moisture, keeping your face dry and comfortable.  Plus, it is compact and small enough to pack away in your bag for when the air warms up for your ride home.

No matter the season, there is always a use for a ColdAvenger!

Spring Skiing

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Sure, we’re way into skiing when the mercury drops below zero, but we also like spring skiing.  I tend to keep my ColdAvenger in my backcountry pack rather than on my mug–just so I have it when I need it.  I’ve gotten in the habit of sleeping in my ColdAvenger during snow camping adventures this time of year.

But for resort frontside action, the ColdAvenger mask gets a break.  Temperatures are warmer, snow is wetter–and it’s just good, spring fun.

It also can be unpredictable weather wise so it’s always a good idea to ski prepared.

Spring Skiing Tips:

Wear sunblock, it tends to be brighter during spring skiing, protect your skin

Wear UV protection eye wear, either goggles or sunglasses

Dress in layers, it is easy to over heat in warmer ski conditions

Watch for rocks

Stay hydrated, you may tend to sweat more due to the warmer conditions, drink plenty of water

You may get a sunburn from skiing with out your shirt on but as long as you have your trusty ColdAvenger, you know at least your face and airways will be protected
