Cold Avenger Expedition now Available on the North Slope!

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Good news for all the folks working on the North Slope in Alaska this winter.  The leader in oilfield and industrial supplies for the North Slope in Alaska, Brooks Range Supply Store in Deadhorse, AK will now be carrying the Cold Avenger Expedition.   The oil field workers push the limits out in the harsh Alaska weather and there is no better facial and air protection than the Cold Avenger.

With more than 20 years of experience,  Brooks Range Supply Store knows gear.  They have seen gimmicks come and go, and they know a solution when they see it.  So, we are excited to have them offering the Cold Avenger to their customers this winter.  The Expedition will be available for purchase at Brooks Range Supply very soon, within the next few weeks.

Weather Brings Cho Oyu Summit Attempt to an End

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Cold Avenger athlete Chris Klinke was hoping to summit Cho Oyu this fall.  But after several attempts and delays, the weather just wasn’t going to let that happen.  While the strong winds and snow were a good test on his ColdAvenger face mask, the conditions proved to be too much for a safe summit.  Chris writes about this last attempt on his blog:

I wish I could say that we went up the mountain and had success in reaching the top. We did not.

We went up to camp 1 in strong winds and low temps. Found one of our tent fly’s ripped to shreds. Had a long nigh of high winds. Woke up to still more wind and moved up to camp 2. By the time I arrived I felt like my face had been to one of those fancy spas where they sand blast the outer layer of skin off your face. We found both our tents standing but definiely the worse for wear. We rested and brewed up but the the winds did not die down. We made the decision to wait it out one more night. During the next day clouds built, snow came, and our constant companion the wind stayed with us. The big issue with wind is that the ambient temperature at the summit is -25 to -30f add a 25mph wind to that and it is bitter cold and high risk of frost bite.

At about 2pm we pulled the plug on the climb and came down figuring it was not going to be our season.

On any expedition, luck and timing play a huge role. Based on my estimate there were 3-4 days that Cho Oyu was summitable. Unfortunately we were not in a position to take advantage of any of those days. The team is in great spirits knowing that we did everything we could to reach the top.

This morning we woke to 4-6 inches of snow at ABC so it helps with our decision.

Thanks for all the support…Until next time.

New Store = New Display

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Murdoch’s, one of newest and biggest retail outlets to carry ColdAvenger this season, also has a brand spankin’ new point of purchase display. I’ve showed this off before, but I recently got some great feedback and…thought I’d share. With 15 Murdoch’s stores scattered around the Rocky Mountain West, it is a great partnership catering to hardworking, occupational workers facing the elements all winter long.  Murdoch’s ordered three different ColdAvenger styles; Pro, Classic and Expedition, to make a nice offering of choices to consumers. So, honoring this exciting retail partnership I designed a new point of purchase display to showcase the product offering and highlight more information about the product to the consumer.

As you can see, consumers (actually that’s our PR gal, Hilary) and the salespeople are noticing and obviously, loving the display….Maybe, not as much I am, but still—I thought I’d show it off, just a bit!

Where in the World is a ColdAvenger?

Friday, October 15th, 2010

The ColdAvenger cold weather face mask is getting easier and easier to find each season. Why? Because more and more shops are realizing the radicality factor of this important winter protection –  making orders and putting it on the shelves. We are excited about all of our new retail partners this season, but we can’t forget some of the first retail outlets that included the ColdAvenger face mask in their line-up of gear. That is includes the Godfather—REI.

For those wondering which REI stores carry the ColdAvenger, look no further. Chances are, there’s one right around the corner from you. Just look at the list below. Then, go and check one out for yourself.  The mystery of Where in the World is a ColdAvenger has been solved!
