Talus Outdoor Technologies’s supported, The Coldest Journey’s Ice Team, is stuck in what Rob Lambert, a crew member, calls the Holey Land. From a blog report posted on April 28th, Rob reported that the Ice Team was stuck in the middle of a minefield of crevasses. Crevasses are holes in the ice that could potentially damage the Cats or injure team members. The Ice Team is focused on predicting the location of crevasses so the ice train can continue the journey safely. But, at the current moment things are standing still until a safe route is found to continue. To stay up-to-date follow our blog or to get the most recent news follow The Coldest Journey’s Blog here.
Check out the video below by Ian Prickett wearing our ColdAvenger face mask, telling everyone about their position and about crossing the Mother of All Blue Ice Crevasses Field. Plus check out their exact position on the live map.

After watching that video, I’ve never been so sure that the ColdAvenger is at home with that crew!

Talus athlete, Bonnie Moebeck, attempted to complete the Arrowhead 135 in January 2013. The Arrowhead 135 is a 60 hour long bike race in which riders have to traverse 135 miles of brutal terrain in the coldest part of Minnesota known as “The Freezer.” Unfortunately Bonnie and about 75% of the other competitors. Check out the race results here. Bonnie and the other competitors ran into a snow storm that made the track very wet and slippery. She and most of the others had to push their bikes most of the way. Read about Bonnie’s experience on her blog here. Here are a few pictures of her during the race taken by Adrian Danciu/Kinocut Pictures while she was using the ColdAvenger.

Talus Outdoor Technologies has recently selected Jayson Clark as our featured ColdAvenger!

Jayson Clark
Jayson uses the ColdAvenger Expedition balaclava for occupational purposes, as his work conditions range from -5 to -50°C in the winter in Canada. Jayson is a surveyor working in the oil and gas fields north of Fort McMurray. He works 12-hour shifts per day and although he doesn’t get much of a chance to warm up, the ColdAvenger helps him combat and comfortably tolerate high-winds and below-freezing temperatures. He also notes that because he has to where safety glasses for the job, he is very appreciative they don’t fog up while wearing the ColdAvenger. Glad we could help you out, Jayson!

The snow is falling and we are appropriately stacking up the expeditions for this upcoming winter.
In addition to the numerous adventures we’ve filled your brain with the past couple of weeks, we’ve also added the 6633 Ultra to our expedition list. Talus will be sponsoring athlete Ian Hall.

The 6633 Ultra is a nonstop, self-sufficient foot race over a distance of either 120 or 350 miles. The race spans the line of the Arctic Circle, with the 350 mile race continuing to the banks of the Arctic Ocean at Tuktoyaktuk. Competitors are expected to carry all their own necessities for the race including food, cooking items, clothing, sleeping gear and anything else they may need over the course of their trek.
For more information on the 6633 Ultra visit their webpage at: http://www.6633ultra.com/. We’re stoked to add another exciting expedition to our list!

Talus is stoked to announce that athlete Sir Ranulph Fiennes is gearing up for what is soon to be known as one of the most impressive expeditions of all time.

The Coldest Journey
Fiennes and his team will begin their six-month expedition on the Spring Equinox to reach the Ross Sea, starting from the Russian base of Novolazareskaya to Captain Scott’s base at McMurdo Sound via the South Pole. This ambitious journey will test human endurance in some of the harshest climates Mother Nature has to offer. The team will travel 4,000 kilometers with temperatures reaching as low as -90°C. These extreme conditions mean that the team will have to be entirely self-sufficient, as aircraft rescue facilities cannot enter Antarctica during winter due to darkness and risk of freezing fuel.
Talus is a gear sponsor for Ranulph and his team. So, we will be posting updates on the team’s journey as quickly as we receive them. Stay tuned for updates and posts on Ranulph Fiennes and The Coldest Journey.

It’s getting to be that time of year again and we couldn’t be more stoked about it. The leaves are turning, the days are getting shorter and every day we are getting that much closer to winter.
ColdAvenger athletes are getting their gear ready and buttoning up for their winter adventures. We decided to play a little catch up and see what our athletes have been up to this summer and see what their upcoming plans are for winter.
Talus athlete Charly Tri has two big races this winter. The Tuscobia 150 at the end of December and a month later he will be tackling the Arrowhead 135 for the 4th time.

Charly Tri
Felicity Aston has been busy as a bee writing her book about her last expedition. She spent the summer in Iceland to focus on her writing and is beginning her UK-wide speaking tour this Autumn to talk about her experiences in Antarctica. You can check out her speaking schedule here.

Marek Klonowski will be going back to Nanga Parbat for a third and hopeful final attempt to become the first team to climb the mountain in winter.

Marek Klonowski
Stay tuned to the blog to keep up with Talus athletes and their upcoming expeditions. We will be posting updates as quickly as we receive them from each and every one of our athletes.

We all saw it coming and we have to say that we’re wildly relieved that finally someone else has too. If the world is indeed coming to an end via an Ice Age we’re sure as heck not going to take that sitting down. (Ok, well we might sit and huddle for warmth but figuratively speaking we’ve hit the ground running).
The ColdAvenger Expedition Balaclava is built specifically to humidify the air that you’re breathing in and keep the moisture from exhalation away from your face to prevent freezing.

ColdAvenger Balaclava
This keeps your lungs and your esophagus happy while still making sure your beard (or your she-beard) doesn’t turn into a forest of hairsicles when you’re out tackling Mother Nature.
We originally built the ColdAvenger to keep your mug warm during outdoor expeditions but if it helps us become the last ones standing at the end of the world then we’ll take it.
In fact, word is getting out that the end of the world will be much more enjoyable if you have a ColdAvenger Expedition Balaclava. Check out this article about Apocolypse Gear from Active Junky here. End of the world gifts make an excellent 4th of July party favor. Just sayin’.
